John's professional experience spans over two decades of diverse
and unique photography. Now a freelance photographer focusing on freestyle
wedding photography and landscape photography, John's career has taken
him around the world as a travel photographer and into the operating room
as a medical photographer. Freestyle wedding photography blends classic
poses with a twist of renaissance, photojournalism, candids, and set-up
shots that look natural.
In 1980, Denis Reggie coined the Term "Wedding photojournalism"
to define a genre that recognizes coverage in real time by a photographer
respectful of the natural occurrences and flow of the wedding day without
assuming a leadership position in arranging, staging, or prompting subjects.
The hallmark of the concept is both perspective and attitude, based on
a mandate to be truly reactive rather than proactive, and a dedication
to record events as historian rather than director. Content with reality,
the wedding photojournalist quietly documents while anticipating action,
sensitively observing details and nuance, capturing moments without subjects
actively aware of the process.
John's credits include several children's books for Scholastic Publishing,
and his images have appeared in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The
Boston Globe, Ski, Skiing, Vermont Life, and numerous state and local newspapers.
He has worked as university photographer in New York and Vermont. John
is a member of the Vermont Professional Photographers Association. He lives
in Fayston Vermont with his wife and two children.
